Luxembourg Selected as Test Ground for Pilot Operations
Chinese autonomous vehicle innovator Pony.ai and global automaker Stellantis have agreed to collaborate on the creation of electric vans equipped with Level 4 self-driving capabilities aimed at European markets. The partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, will begin with a pilot program in Luxembourg, followed by an expanded rollout expected in 2026. The initiative blends Pony.ai’s expertise in autonomous technology with Stellantis’ manufacturing strength and electric vehicle platforms.
Autonomous Technology to Power Stellantis’ Electric Fleet
The cooperation will see Pony.ai’s autonomous driving systems integrated into Stellantis’ range of electric light commercial vehicles, including those produced under the Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel brands. These vehicles are intended to operate as both passenger shuttles and delivery vans, supporting Europe’s transition toward automated, zero-emission transport. Early testing will be conducted with human safety operators while the technology undergoes regulatory review and performance assessments.
Collaboration Marks Pony.ai’s European Breakthrough
The deal represents Pony.ai’s first major step into the European market, extending its presence beyond established operations in China and the United States. Stellantis views the project as part of its broader effort to integrate autonomous capabilities across its growing lineup of electric vehicles. Both companies have emphasized that safety validation, compliance with European standards, and data protection measures will be central to every phase of the program before commercial services are introduced.
