Albanese added that authorities coordinate with NSW Police and will provide updates as investigations progress. He repeated the call for people near the area to heed official guidance. NSW Police warned the public at 7:30 p.m. local time to take shelter or avoid Bondi Beach after receiving shooting alerts.
Videos on X and other social platforms showed crowds fleeing as gunshots and police sirens filled the area. Panic spread among beach-goers, and emergency services rushed to assist the injured.
Suspects detained; investigation continues
Roughly 2,000 people attended the Hanukkah event, though authorities have not confirmed if the attackers targeted the gathering. Investigators continue examining possible motives for the attack.
Additional videos showed police detaining two suspects on a civilian bridge. Earlier footage captured the same individuals firing what appeared to be sniper rifles.
