Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they surrendered a lead twice in a 3-3 draw against Tottenham on Sunday.
United appeared in control for much of the match after Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half goal put them ahead, but they were pegged back by strikes from Mathys Tel and Richarlison before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point with a 96th-minute header.
Despite extending their unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was unimpressed with the team’s mentality.
“We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive,” he said. “We felt too comfortable. Anything can happen in one play to change the mood of the stadium — and today it did. The game was there to take.”
There was also concern for substitute Benjamin Šeško, who appeared to pick up a knee injury late on. “We think he has a problem but let’s see,” Amorim added.
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after fans booed the withdrawal of Xavi Simons for Tel, who went on to score the equaliser. “Every time I make a change, it’s to win the game,” Frank said. “Tel did well — a great moment for him.”
Despite extending their winless home run to nearly three months, Frank insisted Spurs were “moving in the right direction” after the comeback performance.
