Fire engines sped to the scene after reports of the explosion near a Red Fort metro station gate. Firefighters battled flames engulfing parked cars while police cordoned off the area. Authorities evacuated bystanders and worked to prevent further damage.
Witnesses Describe the Chaos
Local residents reported a “window-shattering sound” followed by fire spreading across vehicles. Police spokesman Sanjay Tyagi confirmed the deaths and injuries. He said investigators are examining the cause of the blast. The Red Fort, once an imperial palace, remains a major tourist landmark amid the wreckage.
