Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refused Vladimir Putin’s invitation to meet in Moscow, calling it unrealistic. Zelenskyy told ABC News he cannot visit Moscow while Ukraine faces daily missile attacks. He said, “Putin can come to Kyiv” instead. Zelenskyy suggested Russia shows no real interest in negotiations by insisting on Moscow.
U.S. Pushes for Direct Talks
President Donald Trump urged face-to-face talks between Zelenskyy and Putin, making it a key goal of his Alaska summit with Russia. Trump said the leaders would meet after Zelenskyy visits Washington and consults European leaders. Moscow added conditions, delayed decisions, and increased attacks on Ukrainian cities. Putin stated readiness to meet, but only in Moscow. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the invitation aimed “to talk, not to capitulate.” Speaking in Paris, Zelenskyy said Russia inviting him to Moscow proves it wants no genuine meeting. Trump told CBS News that talks will occur, but he gave no timeline.
Zelenskyy Condemns Russian Escalation
Zelenskyy reported that Russia launched over 1,300 drones, nearly 900 guided bombs, and around 50 missiles in early September. Strikes hit 14 Ukrainian regions, showing Russia seeks to prolong the war and mock diplomacy. Zelenskyy called on allies to respond firmly, strengthen sanctions, increase weapons supplies, and restrict Russian oil and gas trade. He said nations must act against attacks, destruction, and Russia’s disregard for dialogue.
